In a lonely world, where can I find love?

In a materialistic world, where can I find meaning? In a confusing world, where can I find guidance? In a broken world, where can I find liberation? And in a lonely world, where can I find love?

In this 6-part video series I’m exploring social trends that suggest four spiritual questions are bubbling up from the souls of secular countries like the UK, US and Australia. In this 5 minute video I look at trends like single-person households in Australia, the phenomenal rise of social networking sites, and ‘sexting’ as signs of our search for love.

I want to answer with another question … WHAT do we mean by ‘love’, we Christians who talk so much about ‘God’s Love’ and ‘how much God loves you/us’? The word is so devalued and so commonplace that we need to define it, think what we mean by it, and find, use, and understand some synonyms for Love. Otherwise it is empty (‘like a clanging cymbal’ itself – indeed, what kind of a symbol is it?) No ‘having a go’ here: this is straightforwardly a question/suggestion for Christians to look at very seriously, since the secular(ised) world has no concept of what God’s Love means, and to hear some Christians talk, you could think they mean ‘the (sentimental/emotional) love of my imaginary friend, the imaginary hugs he gives me…’ , which will not get us anywhere in inviting them to explore faith … Would genuinely love (!!) to know what you think and discuss this …
