Watch the Resurrection Year Webcast [Video]

(Forward the video to 2.40 for the beginning of the webcast)

The Day Has Come

Resurrection Year Book

‘I don’t often cry when I read, but your book has broken me’

‘Resurrection Year is beautiful and painful and wonderful and sad and happy, all at once’

‘To read about your journey gave me hope that no matter what happens, I’ll be ok. That what I’m feeling is normal. That God isn’t a meanie’

On Christmas Day 2010, after ten years of pursuit, Merryn and I brought our dream of having a child to an end. In 2012, at the suggestion of a friend, I wrote that story into a book. On Tuesday May 28, 2013, that book Resurrection Year was released into the world. The comments above are just a fraction of those I’ve already received about it.

Something’s up. God seems to be redeeming the pain we experienced by using our story to help others.

Watch the Launch Webcast, Live from Our Lounge Room!

Resurrection Year Release BannerResurrection Year is an intimate book about broken dreams and new hope, so it only seems right that Merryn and I should welcome you into our home to tell you about it!

That’s what we did on the day of Resurrection Year’s worldwide release. We had a party at our place, watched by hundreds of people around the world via webcast.

Now you can join Merryn and me, plus author Nick Page, and Adrian Plass, along with a fun local audience to hear us discuss the book.

Yes, we had a few technical difficulties!

But everyone had a great time anyway.

We hope you enjoy this fun hour of laughter, conversation and… mishaps!

Buy the Book!

Did you avoid the topics raised in the book on Open House when you were the host?

    reply
    • May 22, 2013

Actually, there were a couple of times where I did address those topics. I always wondered if listeners could tell that was curiously more knowledgeable on those topics than others.

Hi. If it’s okay, I’ve got a few questions for the Q & A part of the webcast.

Why did you dedicate the book to Adrian and Bridget Plass?

Do you know why God led you to write the book?

Do you know why you didn’t receive a response to your prayers (the ones mentioned in the book)?

Thanks. Sheridan, God bless you and Merryn!

Question: Have you reached the place of peace and joy, where the pain of your loss is in the past and you are excited about the future and not afraid? IF you are still moving towards that place, do you expect to get there? (sorry, five questions in one)….

    reply
    • May 30, 2013

Pretty much, Clare. There are days, of course, when we’re reminded of our loss. Merryn sometimes has a few tears. But those days are getting fewer and further between.

I think it’s important to mention, though, that the loss will always be there. But you can move into a new ‘normal’.

In what ways did you find you complemented or conflicted with one another in the way you dealt with the whole process? How did you turn something stressful on a marriage into something that grew your relationship?

    reply
    • May 30, 2013

First, we made a commitment that our marriage was more important than having a child. That would later be very significant.

Second, when conflicts did arise – which they did – we committed to staying in the room and talking those conflicts through. Sometimes those conversations lasted an hour or two and were exhausting. But they were important.

But it was very difficult and exhausting at times.

I wasn’t completely sure that it was my question that they were answering at first but then as they continued talking, they did answer my question about why they thought God remained silent during their struggle with infertility.

Hi Sheridan and Merryn, I heard some of your interview on Vision Radio today and my immediate reaction was “I am so over all these talks on infertility – most times they talk about the struggle and then about the “surprise” children that they were blessed with”. Unfortunately I didn’t hear the whole interview; but was intrigued to hear your journey. I used to listen to you, Sheridan, when I was living in Victoria (I now live in Central Qld) on Light FM and really enjoyed your interviews.

Anyway, I have just listened to your podcast and have been moved by everything you have been through and where you are at. I have bought the e-book and am anxious to now read it too.

Our journey is very similar to yours – we were married in 2002 and started trying for our family from 2003 (I was in my 30’s when I got married so didn’t think I had much time to get my family started). Well, 10 years down the line and we are still “childless”. I put that word in inverted commas because there are other factors to our journey – through IVF we were able to conceive – once – but our daughter’s heartbeat stopped at 37w5d. She was stillborn in February 2008. My dreams were crashed in so many ways. My faith took a hit as well (even though I didn’t pull away from God; I certainly struggled with trusting Him for a very long time).

I don’t want to write a book here; just want to give you an indication as to our journey – I have friended you on Facebook so would be happy to chat more if you want to know our full story. We also did various other things including acupuncture (which was a real struggle ethically for me); as well as the adoption thing (still going with that). We are now also Foster Parents which comes with lots of challenges of it’s own.

i would love to chat with you both if you have time sometime in the future.

And I am looking forward to reading your book.

    Thanks for sharing your journey!

Hi Renee. Lovely to hear from you. I think you’ll find our stories very similar indeed, as well as the ethical conscience calls and faith challenges. I’ll be really keen to hear what you make of the book. And I’m so glad you’re foster parents – such a significant role for you and your husband to play in these children’s lives.
