The Story of God

I’m embarrassed to admit it but I was moved by the film The Notebook. A hanky-soaking love story, the plot revolves around two elderly residents in a nursing home—Duke dutifully visiting Mrs Hamilton every day, reading her a hand-written story from a notebook about two young lovers in the 1940’s.

At the end of the movie we see something beautiful happen on the face of Mrs Hamilton. As Duke reads the final lines of the notebook her eyes open wide, she looks at the old man sitting next to her and says, ‘Yes, I remember now! Duke, that story is about us!’ And for a few brief moments the old woman snaps out of her Alzheimer’s and remembers who she is and who she’s married to.

In the telling of a special story, Mrs Hamilton’s confusion is interrupted and she returns to reality.

We live in a world confused about meaning, guidance, liberation and love—as this video series has been exploring. Is there a story that can interrupt that confusion, open our eyes, and bring us back to reality?

I believe there is, and in this 9 minute video I tell it.

Catch up with the rest of the series:

  1. Introduction: Anxious Questions
  2. Question 1: In a materialistic world, where can I find meaning?
  3. Question 2: In a confusing world, where can I find guidance?
  4. Question 3: In a broken world, where can I find liberation?
  5. Question 4: In a lonely world, where can I find love?
  6. A Story
